Fireside Chat

Let me explain.

In this extremely poor quality photograph, you can [not really] see...anything.  But if you look very close and squint your eyes a little bit, you can see my bangs.  Actually, you know what...don't even bother looking at the photograph.  I just have a short story for you if you happen to be home alone on a Saturday night reading my blog.  Ready?  Here we go.

When I was four years old, I grabbed a pair of scissors the size of my head and hid behind my parents bed.  In my impulsive, yet sober, four-year old brain, I decided that it would be a good idea to cut my own bangs...immediately.  Was there a mirror involved, you ask?  Absolutely not.  I cut my own bangs at a complete slant.  I may have thought I looked awesome but my parents were mortified.  I wish I had a better photo to show you how awkward I looked.

I never cut my own hair again until today.  I just wanted it off my shoulders, you know?  No bangs were harmed and it doesn't look terrible!  Look, Mom.  I'm an adult.
I will always be impulsive.  I have been since age 4.  An impulsive haircut is not a big deal.  I get that.  However, impulsively quitting your job?  Not cute.  And yes, I am embarrassed to admit that I did that last year.  Yes, LAST year.  It's 2013, people.  I am putting that in the past and not looking back.  One of the things I am working on in my life is personal integrity:  Treating your word to yourself as if it is the law.  Basically, I am practicing keeping the commitments that I make each day.  Whether it be to run 7 miles or to walk in for a job interview, I am learning to keep my word no matter what.  Life works so much better that way.

E
