Whenever someone asks me if I'm a morning person [which happens all the time, let me tell you], I take a swig of coffee and laugh. "Me, Elin, a morning person? Do I *look* like a morning person? Another cup of coffee, please." Yes, I prefer the night. However, I'm starting to wonder if I'm simply making an excuse to sleep in. Oh my gawd, am I just lazy? Cringe.
According to Urban Dictionary [a very credible source], "morning person" is defined as: That irritatingly happy person that has no need for high octane coffee when they wake up. True. I know people that fit this description. However, these so-called morning people that I know...they don't exactly enjoy waking up before the sun. The early risers were not built differently than those of us who like to stay up with the stars. Morning people choose to wake up because they want to make shit happen. For the morning person, life is simply too short to press the snooze button. I fucking admire the morning person.
One of my favorite bloggers is Brianna Sky, owner of Shine or Set. In fact, her blog was what inspired me to start my own last month. A fellow 24-year-old, Brianna writes to inspire and encourage others. The first post I ever read of hers was an absolute success story. Two years ago, Brianna decided to break away from her unhealthy lifestyle. She left a toxic relationship and lost 40 pounds. Forty! Her ability to put it all out there was refreshing True Life: I was hooked. Almost a year later, I still look forward to her daily posts. Brianna continues to prove that working hard pays off. The girl is a hot tamale.
I recently discovered that the Shine or Set fitness junkie hits the gym every morning at 6:30am. Morning person? Yeah, probably. When I asked Brianna how the hell she does it, she replied, "I prefer morning workouts because they boost your metabolism for the rest of the day, along with boosting your mood! It's just about getting enough sleep and taking on the morning with determination! You can do it!" Gawd, I love her. Basically, anyone can be a morning person if they want to be. I want to be. Why? I'd rather make results than excuses. Snooze button, you're dead to me.
