Power of the Playbook

Sometimes I look at the clock at 11:11 and wish that I could act.  Hah!  Just kidding.  What a stupid wish.  I have never done such a thing.  And besides, I wouldn't tell you what I wished for.  That's not how wishes work.  However, I do think I would be very happy on the big screen.  [I played Snow White in the 6th grade play.  I'm basically a professional.]  Watching a movie is the greatest form of modern escapism.  To actually be *in* the movie?  Well, that sounds like the ultimate escape.  One of my favorite films [of all time] is Silver Linings Playbook, starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.  It has all of my preferred elements:  Comedy, romance, dysfunction.  I can relate to the crazy.  Moreover, I know what it's like to try to regain control and positivity when life doesn't go according to plan.  Honestly, I can relate to this movie more than I care to share.  I would much rather list 10 of  my most loved quotes from SLP, which is still playing in theatres.  Go fucking see it.

“Let me tell ya. You gotta pay attention to signs. When life reaches out with a moment like this, it's a sin if you don't reach back... I'm telling you.”

“It hurts to look at the clouds, but it also helps, like most things that cause pain.”

“She looks sad. She looks angry. She looks different from everyone else I know.  She cannot put on that happy face others wear when they know they are being watched. She doesn't put on a face for me, which makes me trust her somehow.”

“You need to know it's your actions that will make you a good person, not desire.”

“Maybe you will never be able to forgive me, but I wanted you to know I had the best intentions-and I still love you in my own fucked-up way.”

“Looking into another person's eyes for an extended period of time proved to be a powerful thing. And if you don't believe me, try it yourself.”

“When I read the actual story-how Gatsby loves Daisy so much but can't ever be with her no matter how hard he tries-I feel like ripping the book in half and calling up Fitzgerald and telling him his book is all wrong, even though I know Fitzgerald is probably deceased. Especially when Gatsby is shot dead in his swimming pool the first time he goes for a swim all summer, Daisy doesn't even go to his funeral, Nick and Jordan part ways, and Daisy ends up sticking with racist Tom, whose need for sex basically murders an innocent woman, you can tell Fitzgerald never took the time to look up at clouds during sunset, because there's no silver lining at the end of that book, let me tell you.”

"I was a slut. There will always be a part of me that is dirty and sloppy, but I like that, just like all the other parts of myself."

"The world will break your heart ten ways to Sunday. That's guaranteed. I can't begin to explain that. Or the craziness inside myself and everyone else. But guess what? Sunday's my favorite day again. I think of what everyone did for me, and I feel like a very lucky guy."

"If you stay positive, you have a shot at a silver lining."

  2. DUDE, I was hatin' on this movie due to the fact that B.Coop was in it and he seemed like a real lame-o to me. A lame-o who couldn't act. But then I got my hands on the DVD (I know.) and I watched it and...well I was wrong. I looooooved this movie. JLaw is such a gem. We need more chick-a-dees like her in HWood. Less K-Stews ;)
